DELTA REGION--2012 Libero Serving Instructions
Printable PDF for Libero Scorekeeping Instructions As a reminder, Libero designation (one or two) is required for the entire MATCH. Coaches cannot designate different liberos for each set (game)
For the 2012 season, the Libero(s) will be permitted to serve in one rotation.
If one Libero per set is used: the Libero already on the court (rotating to the front row) may move to position 1 (right back) to serve without being required to leave the court for one completed rally. In this case, the player that the Libero had previously replaced must replace her on the court. A Libero who has served in one rotation may not serve in another.
If two Liberos per match is being used: the acting Libero rotating to the front row may move to position 1 and serve without being required to leave the court. In addition, the acting Libero may come off the court at the same time that the second Libero moves into position 1 to serve. This double Libero replacement is only allowed for serving purposes. This will require the assistant scorer to pay more attention to Libero replacements. All other Libero situations are governed by Rule 19.3.
The referees and scorers will not intervene to correct an illegal replacement or potential wrong server prior to the service. If either of these occurs, a fault will be called at the time of service. Coaches may request a line-up check prior to the authorization of service if there is a question about the team’s line-up or server.
The first time a team’s Libero serves in each set, the scorer and assistant scorer will draw a triangle around the position number (the Roman numeral) in the line-up area of the scoresheet (see A below) and Libero control sheet (see C below). The Libero(s) may not serve in any other position for the rest of the set although either Libero may serve in that position. In addition, the scorer will indicate a point scored by the Libero by drawing a triangle around the point number in the running score columns (see B below).
