CLICK here for the 2007-08 Officials' on-line exam

The password for Delta Region members is DEG596

notice:  this password is different than the scorekeepers' test

(Take Test C for R1 certification....  Regional Referee candidates must take Test A)

Be sure to select Delta Region when completing the information section. Be sure to read the entire notice below before taking the test. The password for Delta members is DEG596 Note:  If you have not yet registered as a member of the Delta Region, your test results may not be valid.  Please submit your membership forms as soon as possible.  You MUST be a member of USA Volleyball to be certified as a USAV official and to work USAV matches in the Delta Region.  Being a high school official does NOT substitute for this. Unless you are a PAVO registered official, do NOT take the PAVO portion of the test nor send your results to anybody else.

All official candidates must complete officials test on-line before attending clinic. Test results will automatically be forwarded to the referee chair and the candidate for review. Candidate will be provided list of questions missed and should review and mark the reference for each question missed and bring to the clinic.

The on-line test is NOT a substitute for studying the rulebook.  The Region office receives ALL results from each attempt you make on this test.  If you make a "40" on your test and five minutes later make a "100", then we can probably assume you didn't exactly look up the references to the questions you missed.  If you make less than a "60" on your first attempt, you didn't study the rule book very well, and probably need a lot of practical review before you become an official.  You will learn the rules by making your rule book dog-eared, looking up the answers & essentially arguing about it with your official-friends

2007-08 Indoor Domestic Competition Regulations (Rules)

Comparison of Rules Among USAV, NCAA & National Federation (High School)--now you know why it's so confusing!

USA Volleyball Rule Change Announced (effective immediately)

As per the Executive Committee decision of October 8, 2007, the USA Volleyball Rules Interpreter Steve Thorpe has released the following rule change wording to be effective immediately.

New USAV 5.3.1
"One assistant coach may leave the bench to give instructions to the players on the court. This assistant coach may give these instructions while standing or walking within the free zone in front of his/her team bench from the extension of the attack line up to the warm-up area, no closer than 1 meter from the court, without disturbing or delaying the match. Other assistant coaches may give instructions to players on the court while remaining seated on the team bench."

To replace Old USAV 5.3.1
"While remaining on the bench, the assistant coach(es) may give instructions to the players on the court."

Q & A - What does this really mean?
1) For teams with multiple assistant coaches on the bench, will the "one" assistant coach that is allowed to stand up be "one-at-a-time" per dead ball or will it be a pre-defined assistant coach prior to the start of the match/set? One at a time; but not just during a dead ball, at any time during play. There is no need to designate a "Stand-up Assistant" for a set or match.

2) Will the teams be able to change the "one" assistant coach for each set (ala the libero). If so, how will such a change be noted and communicated? Not necessary. See answer above.

3) Can that assistant coach talk to the referee? The Head Coach, Yes, within the usual limits specified in Rule 5.2.1. The Assistant Coach, No. The Rule (5.3.1) still says the assistant coaches have no right to intervene in the match.
